The performance and safety of transport infrastructure is essential for the functioning of a modern society and economy. Bridges are a central element of that infrastructure, which is why requirements for these structures are particularly strict.
Although all member states have committed themselves to safe and long-serving bridges, the processes for the safe operation of bridges in Europe are regulated in very different ways. The Bridge Forum will initiate a Europe-wide exchange of best practice in this field. It will explore how cutting-edge digital technology - such as monitoring, big and smart data, virtual and augmented reality - can enable a more harmonised approach.
