In October 2020, together with several partners and funded by the European Commission and supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the Natural History Museum will host a large conference to showcase, evaluate and discuss the contribution of citizen science to developing and achieving sustainable development goals, or SDGs. The SDGs have been drawn up by the United Nations as a framework to address hunger and malnutrition, health, environment, culture and justice. Citizen science can support the achievement of these goals by providing data and insights as well as through the relevant adaptation and prioritisation of research questions.

At this conference, both citizen scientists and expert scientists affiliated with research institutions, politicians, NGOs, economists, and civil society representatives will discuss and experiment with citizen science and how it can contribute to sustainability. There will also be a citizen science festival.
