German Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Heil and German Minister for Family Affairs Giffey chaired the virtual meeting of employment and social policy ministers on 13 October. The meeting focused on the participation and support of workers in cases of restructuring and on gender equality in the labour market.
In the morning, ministers discussed how to strengthen employee participation, information and transparency during this trying economic situation and how to provide affected workers with the necessary assistance in terms of upskilling and continuing education and training.
The afternoon was devoted to gender equality in the labour market. The pandemic has highlighted the problem of unequal distribution of paid work and unpaid household duties between the genders. The ministers discussed how gender equality can be promoted in concrete terms.
