President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen delivers State of the Union address

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will hold her annual State of the Union address this morning. She will both take stock of her first year in office and look towards the future. The address can be followed live from 9.15.

Since former European Commission President Manuel Barroso first stood before the European Parliament to take stock of the work of the prior year and consider future challenges on 7 September 2010, the annual speech by the President of the European Commission on the state of the European Union has become a September tradition. On Wednesday, 16 September, at 9.15, it will be President von der Leyen’s turn.

She took office at a time of great challenges, among them the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change and the digital transformation of the economy and society. Ursula von der Leyen will address these questions and the strategies that she and her Commission are pursuing.
