The members of the European Economic Area (EEA) Council got together on Wednesday, 18 November, for their regular biannual meeting, which – due to the pandemic – took place as an informal videoconference chaired by Katrin Eggenberger, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Liechtenstein.

The event was preceded by an informal political dialogue on current foreign policy issues chaired by German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas. The Council meeting itself focused on EEA-related economic policy issues. A discussion on the effect of COVID-19 on the internal market and an orientation debate on Europe’s digital future were the main agenda items at the virtual conference. A joint statement was issued following the event.
