Informal exchange of EU transport ministers on the European freight sector

The focus of the informal exchange was a discussion about the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the freight sector in Europe. As early as March 2020, EU member states agreed upon the need for a coordinated approach to support the transport sector which has been heavily impacted as a result of the economic slowdown in the past months.

During the online exchange, ministers discussed a pandemic contingency plan for the European freight sector to better position it for future pandemics. In addition, the European Commission briefed ministers about its amended proposal for the initiative for a more unified European airspace, known as the Single European Sky initiative.
