German Minister of State for Europe Michael Roth gave a statement to the press ahead of the videoconference of EU ministers for European affairs.The first agenda item, a presentation of the priorities of Germany's Presidency of the Council of the EU, was broadcast live.

Minister of State Roth held a live press conference with European Commissioner for Budget and Administration Johannes Hahn at the meeting's conclusion at 17.30.

The primary objective of today's videoconference was to prepare for the meeting of the European Council on 17 and 18 July, which will deal with the Multiannual Financial Framework 2021-2027 (MFF), the EU's next long-term budget, and plans for a supplementary recovery instrument.

The General Affairs Council, which was held this time as a videoconference, prepares meetings of the European Council and is responsible for a variety of topics, including the MFF, negotiations on the future relationship with the United Kingdom, EU expansion and accession talks, as well as safeguarding the rule of law in the Union.
