Foreign Affairs Council in Luxembourg: These topics were on the agenda

On 12 October 2020, EU foreign ministers met at the Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) in Luxembourg. Foreign Minister Heiko Maas represented Germany at the meeting, which was led by High Representative Josep Borrell.

Josep Borrell, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, reported on the latest developments in and around Nagorno-Karabakh and on the situation in the north of Mozambique, as well as on the EU-Ukraine summit on 6 October. The High Representative also addressed the EU Action Plan for Human Rights and Democracy 2020-2024 and the recent delegation of the European External Action Service to Venezuela.

In addition, the ministers talked through the following discussion points: the challenges in the Western Balkans - particularly with focus on the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina - the situation in Belarus, and relations with Russia, Latin America and the Caribbean. A discussion on multilateralism was held over a working lunch.

The next Foreign Affairs Council is scheduled for 19 November.
