Due to recent developments in the COVID-19 pandemic, Federal Minister of Transport and Digital Infrastructure Andreas Scheuer decided against holding the Informal Meeting of EU transport ministers as part of Germany's Presidency of the Council of the EU in person in Passau and Bad Griesbach, as was originally planned.

Instead, a virtual conference on “Harnessing the digital revolution to make the mobility of the future sustainable, safe, secure and efficient” was organised from Berlin on 29 October 2020. The EU's transport ministers want to shape the future of Europe’s mobility with the Passau Declaration, which seeks to unlock the inherent potential of the digital transformation and artificial intelligence for all EU citizens, and to establish Europe as a leader in the field of digital mobility.

The University of Passau and other university partners virtually took part in the meeting as well. As part of the Showcase of the Regions, a virtual visit to the “Opportunities presented by the Digital Revolution” exhibition also took place. During the virtual Informal Meeting, several short films were screened. All of this together allowed Minister Scheuer to show his colleagues his home region.
