Kadri Simson, the European Union Commissioner for Energy, also participated in the event. Due to Covid-19 restrictions the meeting took place via videoconference.

Ministers discussed a number of current European energy policy issues. The following topics were on the agenda:

  • Exchange of views on “Energy System Integration – Setting the path towards a climate neutral Europe”
  • Information from the European Commission on recent developments in the EU's external energy policy
  • Information from the Lithuanian delegation on the commissioning of the Ostravets nuclear power plant in Belarus
  • Outlook on the work programme of the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the EU

The Council conclusions on European cooperation on offshore energy and other renewable energies and on the creation of a European hydrogen market have already been adopted in writing.
