Press conference of the Special European Council in Brussels

For the fifth day in a row, EU leaders on Tuesday morning continued their discussions on the recovery fund to tackle the COVID-19 crisis and a new long-term EU budget.

A press conference was held at 6.00. The special meeting in Brussels marked the first time members of the European Council have met in person since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in Europe.

The question of how the economic and social impacts of the pandemic can be mitigated was a clear priority on the agenda. In concrete terms, the European Council discussed the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF), the EU's next long-term budget, and the proposed €750-billion emergency recovery instrument, known as “Next Generation EU”.
