Faces of Europe, a light installation with music

To conclude Germany’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2020, the artistic initiative FACES OF EUROPE, a cultural-political project initiated by Düsseldorf and Berlin-based photographer Carsten Sander, will come to life at the Narinkattori Square in Helsinki for the Finnish and European public. 15 shining steles with portraits, music and sound invite people to walk across the square in the open air. German photo artist Carsten Sander has embarked on an extraordinary journey through all 27 EU Member States. His mission is to take one thousand portraits of Europeans from different ethnic and social backgrounds, rich and poor, young and old. He depicts celebrities, athletes, politicians, chance encounters on the street, side by side, all on equal terms. 1000 faces of the European Union – an impressive demonstration of European sentiment and a tribute to peaceful coexistence, tolerance and shared values.
