In the context of Germany’s Presidency of the Council of the EU, the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) is convening a high-level conference on 25 November 2020 together with the European Commission, the European External Action Service (EEAS) and the European Parliament. The title of the conference is “Towards a gender equal world - EU contribution to Beijing +25”. It will be held on the occasion of the publication of the third EU Gender Action Plan (EU GAP III), scheduled for 24 November. During its Presidency of the Council of the EU, Germany is advocating ambitious Council Conclusions on the Action Plan. The conference is also meant to rally support for the Generation Equality process, a multi-actor partnership that aims to accelerate progress on gender equality. The COVID-19 pandemic has brought special challenges for emerging economies and developing countries that especially affect women and young girls. It is a matter of urgency that the EU and its member states and international organisations, the private sector and civil society, take action.
