The conference will be held on 5 and 6 November 2020 at the denkmal trade fair for historic monument conservation in Leipzig. It will address the sustainable protection of archaeological world heritage sites in Europe. Worldwide, there are a total of 63 prehistoric world heritage sites. There are 46 UNESCO world heritage sites in the Federal Republic of Germany, five of which are transnational and four of which are archaeological world heritage sites.
Throughout Europe and beyond, archaeological heritage is under threat, whether from climate change, war, urban sprawl or increased levels of tourism. It is therefore essential to identify deficiencies in the organisation and implementation of international and interregional cooperation and to discuss practical improvements.
