Chancellor Angela Merkel will attend the top-level EU-China meeting, which will take the form of a video conference. The chair, on the EU side, will be Charles Michel, President of the European Council. The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, will also attend. The Chancellor will represent Germany, which currently holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. On the Chinese side, President Xi Jinping will attend. The virtual top-level meeting will take stock of relations between the EU and China, and discuss approaches for future cooperation, including climate change, and economic and trade issues. The three leading personalities for the EU will also look at key questions of international politics and other important matters with President Xi. And, participants will share views on responses to the COVID-19 pandemic and strategies to contain it.
