As in previous years, Berlin will once more be bathed in light and colour during the Festival of Lights. Numerous federal ministries are taking part, including – for the third year in a row – the Federal Foreign Office. This year there will be a video projection of the FACES OF EUROPE project devised by Carsten Sander.
During the hours of darkness from 11 to 20 September and then again from 2 to 4 October, Sander’s FACES OF EUROPE will be projected onto the eastern facade of the Federal Foreign Office. On a journey through all 27 EU member states, from Stockholm to Bilbao and from Riga to Athens, the photographer sought and captured the humanity, emotionality and visionary power of the European idea. He shines a spotlight on the people of Europe and shows what unites us as well as what makes us different.
It is an extraordinary demonstration of European biographies and an expression of peaceful coexistence, tolerance and shared values.
