Several times a year, regional network meetings are held for research fellows at the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation who are newly arrived in Germany (without their families). These meetings take place in German university cities. Their aim is to familiarise research fellows with the Humboldt Foundation and various assistance schemes offered, to inform about German university institutions and the academic and university systems as well as compare these with higher education systems outside Germany, and to give research fellows an opportunity to get to know one another and the Humboldt Foundation staff. The meetings also help to provide insight into conditions in Germany via discussion groups arranged according to countries and disciplines. This year the plan is to hold the network meeting in a virtual format for the first time due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
