The informal meeting of ministers under Germany’s Council Presidency will look into various aspects of integration: its traditional meaning (i.e. the integration of immigrants into the host society), but also the impacts of immigration on the host society and social cohesion in times of growing diversity in Europe. EU member states are facing various challenges: the distribution of immigrants between urban and rural areas, diversity management, and strengthening peaceful coexistence. The meeting will refer to the European Commission’s Action Plan on Integration and Inclusion, which is currently being drafted.
