This series of online conferences on EU media policy, to be held from 7 July 2020, aims to encourage debate on the issue of safeguarding media pluralism in Europe.
The COVID-19 pandemic has clearly highlighted the importance of having an independent and diverse media landscape, quality journalism and coverage of a wide range of views. This is crucial to the democratic process of opinion-formation. Following the kick-off event in July, specific aspects of this debate will be explored in five focus sessions, to be held in September and October 2020. The results and conclusions will be summarised and presented to the European Commission at a closing event at the end of October 2020.
Partners: The focus sessions will be organised by the Hans-Bredow-Institut; the German federal states in cooperation with the Institute of European Media Law; the German state media authorities; the European Audiovisual Observatory; and Deutsche Welle.
