The Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure is planning a meeting on the topic of connectivity in a digitally transformed Europe during Germany’s 2020 EU Council Presidency.
The COVID-19 crisis highlights the special relevance of digital infrastructures. Only networks with sufficient capacity enable digital participation in social life and the maintenance of vital societal and economic functions. Such networks must be available to everyone and must be fail-safe and, in the near future, also gigabit-ready.
The focus of this meeting is on possibilities for accelerating gigabit and 5G deployment, the provision of landline networks and mobile communications services in areas where it is highly unprofitable, as well as on the acceptance of 5G networks.
