Peace research shows that when women are included in peace-building, a more sustainable, durable peace is achieved. Yet a female presence continues to be the exception. From 1990 to 2017, only 2 percent of the mediators in formal peace processes were women. In October 2020, we will celebrate the 20th anniversary of UNSC Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security. Against this backdrop, the one and a half day conference will draw attention to this topic. The event will offer representatives from different women’s networks space to discuss current challenges and barriers, including those related to the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as strategies to ensure women’s full participation in peace mediation. Identifying synergies and avenues of cooperation will be a focus at the conference.
