The 32nd meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol will take place from 23 to 27 November. The aim of the Montreal Protocol is to protect the ozone layer from damage caused by chlorofluorocarbons, commonly known as CFCs. The European Union signed the Montreal Protocol in 1987. As part of its EU Council Presidency, Germany will take over the coordination of the EU member states before and during the meeting, insofar as agenda items fall within the competence of the member states.
